Steven DurowMade of extremely thick cast glass, New Orleans artist Steven Durow created Dasein Columns while exiled from his studio after Hurricane Katrina. Durow's work strives to create a sacred space or references a hallowed object. The shapes of the columns refer to Buddhist architecture, ancient holy objects and places of worship. The title refers to German philosopher Martin Heidegger's concept of Dasein, or the physicality of presence/existence in time and space, from his book Being and Time (1927).
