Joseph WheatonFamiliar yet strange, beautiful and menacing, reaching and solid, the work of Joseph Wheaton traverses many contradictions. Precarious forms balance with great certainty, yet are vulnerable to nature's menacing ways. Lines and motion engage, but are elusive and mysterious, like life. The artist's Kabuki Series pays homage to the form of Japanese theatre's overly stylized sense of drama and form. It also perhaps references the etymology of the word kabuki, which is believed to derive from the kabuku, meaning "to lean" or "to be out of the ordinary." Joseph Wheaton lives in Becket, MA.
